Vibrant Health Advocates Dundee runs on the generosity of people who care about this city. Whether you have time to give, resources to share, or professional expertise to offer, there is a meaningful role for you in this work.
We are a small organisation with a big reach, and every contribution — however it comes — helps us support more Dundee residents to live healthier, more confident lives. We welcome enquiries from individuals, businesses, faith communities, schools, and other voluntary organisations who want to work alongside us.
We train and support a network of volunteer health advocates, workshop assistants, and community connectors across Dundee. Full training is provided, and you can contribute as little as a few hours a month — your time and your knowledge of this city are invaluable to us.
Your donation funds the direct delivery of our services — training for advocates, accessible workshop materials, travel costs for home visits, and the staff time that holds it all together. As a registered Scottish charity we operate with lean overheads, so the vast majority of every pound we receive goes straight into the work.
We welcome partnerships with businesses, NHS teams, housing associations, and other third-sector organisations who share our commitment to health equity in Dundee. Whether through employee fundraising, in-kind support, joint service delivery, or hosting a Know Your Health session for your community, we would love to explore what we can build together.
Our volunteer health advocates are the heart of what we do. They come from all walks of life — retired health professionals, parents, students, people with lived experience of health inequalities — and what they share is a commitment to making sure their neighbours are never left to face the health system alone.
We provide comprehensive training that covers: health literacy communication, NHS advocacy and patient rights, active listening and person-centred support, safeguarding, and how to make and follow up referrals. You'll be supported throughout by our paid staff team, with regular peer learning sessions and ongoing development opportunities.
Volunteers typically commit to four to six hours per month, though many give more. We are flexible — if you can only manage a few hours, there is still a role for you. All reasonable expenses including travel are reimbursed.
Volunteer training day, Stobswell, 2024
We are a lean organisation by design. Our overheads are kept deliberately low so that the maximum possible proportion of every donated pound reaches the communities we serve. When you donate to Vibrant Health Advocates Dundee, your money pays for things like: the training that equips a volunteer to support someone through a complex diagnosis; the printed materials in Polish and Arabic that make a workshop genuinely inclusive; the fuel that gets an advocate to a home visit on a cold Wednesday morning; and the staff time that holds every referral together until it is resolved.
We accept one-off and regular donations. If you are a UK taxpayer, Gift Aid means we can claim an extra 25p for every £1 you give at no cost to you. To make a donation or discuss other giving arrangements, please get in touch.
As a registered Scottish charity, we are required to publish annual accounts and report to OSCR, the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator.
We are always open to exploring partnerships with organisations who share our commitment to health equity in Dundee. Whether you are a business with a social responsibility programme, an NHS team looking to improve community engagement, a housing association serving our beneficiary communities, or another third-sector organisation working in a complementary area — we would love to talk.
Partnerships can take many forms. We have worked with local employers to run lunchtime Know Your Health sessions for their workforce. We have partnered with housing associations to deliver door-to-door health information in their properties. We have collaborated with faith communities to reach residents who would never self-refer to a statutory service. If you have an idea, bring it to us — we are flexible, experienced, and genuinely excited about creative collaboration in service of Dundee's communities.
Maria at Thursday drop-in, Stobswell
Maria moved from Wrocław to Dundee in 2021 and struggled to navigate the Scottish health system with a chronic condition and no support network. She found Vibrant Health Advocates, got her diabetes care back on track — and now volunteers every other Thursday, helping other Polish-speaking attendees find their way through the same challenges she faced.
We'd love to hear from you. Whether you want to volunteer, donate, or explore a partnership — get in touch and we'll take it from there.
